Food Sensitivity and Behaviors

Behavioral issues can present in many forms such as temper tantrums, inattention, hyperactivity, impulsivity, difficulty learning, depression or anxiety. These behaviors can result when a child reacts to a food to which he or she could be intolerant or sensitive too. If a child has a  food sensitivity it could be the result of increased intestinal permeability or leaky gut. Which can cause  vitamin and mineral deficiencies, and can further contribute to learning or behavioral issues.

The difference between a food allergy and food sensitivity:

-A food allergy causes an immediate IgE reaction which signals the body to produce histamines

-A food sensitivity results in a delayed IgG reaction, symptoms appear anywhere from hours to days after eating the offending food

The good news testing can be done, you can have IgE food allergy testing and or  IgG food allergy testing.

Great Plains offers  an easy to obtain blood spot IgG food allergy testing. The results will be a useful guide for structuring an elimination diet to the foods you are sensitive too.
